What is the thing that longs to get bitten?
Riddle!
May 15th, 2007Of Ijok and Underaged Voters…
April 26th, 2007Earlier today I was alerted to a link sent to me by a friend: http://daftarj.spr.gov.my/daftarbi.asp and key in this Identification Card number: 990518610029. It was alleged that the ruling party BN would resort to even idiotic acts to win the Ijok election. Supposedly an 8-year old is eligible to vote.
I would assume that only registered voters’ record would be shown, as when I entered my IC number, I get the “no records found” message. I expected that since I have yet registered as a voter.
If you’re going to assault on anyone, make sure it has a sound base. This is just pathetic because:
-
It could’ve been a legitimate voter after all. An old man aged 108. This makes sense as the deprecated, old IC number is printed right beside it.
-
There are some whose birthdate embedded in the IC number (the first 6 digits, in yymmdd order) doesn’t tally with their registered birthdate. Technical error during IC application.
-
How could an 8-year old bear an IC? The minimum age to apply for an IC (IIRC) is on your 12th birthday.
I guess those involved spreading this are losing their touch. They’ve put themselves in a position to be ridiculed. Definitely not fit to be a leader.
Of Ants and Darwinism…
February 28th, 2007Quoting the Deputy Defence Minister in Berita Harian today:
"Kita menganggap anai-anai sebagai musuh bawah tanah di bangunan kem tentera, malah jumlahnya jauh lebih banyak berbanding bilangan anggota tentera."
This evidently, is about termite attacks in government military buildings and offices. I wonder, with billions of cash thrown into getting ourselves nifty tanks and warplanes, are we that stingy to upgrade from the dawn of our independance?
The way he talked was as if the termites would be capable of overturning our armed forces. I don’t mind subtle exaggeration, but this is a bit off, don’t you think?
"Lazimnya dulu hanya bangunan kayu yang diancam anai-anai, tetapi sekarang ni nampaknya anai-anai macam dah ada teknologi baru kerana bangunan simen dan batu pun boleh dimakannya," katanya selepas melawat pangkalan Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) Sepanggar di sini, semalam.
Okay, this exaggeration is way too far. It’s downright stupid. I won’t even bother to explain why.
May All Bless Pretech Will Be Lives Again!
February 19th, 2007And no, that is not the new All Your Base are Belong to Us phenomenal phrase.
I was scouring Lelong.com.my for a replacement motherboard that I could plug my existing Celeron in (the present one works fine, ‘cept that the CMOS circuitry failed, had to reset the clock and re-enable the ACPI setting everytime the computer has been off the plug) and I’d like an AGP slot to put a 3D Graphics Adapter in.
So I found this.
Logic Table!
January 3rd, 2007A friend came to me (well, figuratively, it happened online) asking for help:
She: omar i need your help
Me: um?
She: if 0 OR 1 == 1
She: right?
Me: right.
She: if 1 AND 1?
Me: == 1.
She: ok if 0 OR 0?
Me: 0.
She: 0 AND 1 == 0?
Me: right.
She: yay! ok thanks!
Me: welcome.
Me: mind if i write about this in my blog?
She: sure
She sure wasted a considerable amount of microseconds asking me questions that could easily be solved using the tool she initiated the conversation with.
And I feel as if i’m a logic gate.

How Much Should One Spend on an Engagement Ring?
December 19th, 2006I’m currently having this writer’s block. I wanted to jot down something here, but couldn’t find something to write.
A friend called me up earlier today while i’m at work, for my opinion on the amount of money I should spend on an engagement ring.
Never actually thought of that before, I pulled a three-digit figure starting with 5 out of my ass, hoping that it would be somewhere around that range.
Later that night, he told me that he spent around 1,000 for the ring.
So, what do you guys think?
Microsoft Word 0-day Exploit Alert.
December 6th, 2006From Microsoft Security Advisory 929433:
Microsoft is investigating a new report of limited “zero-day” attacks using a vulnerability in Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Word 2002, Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Word Viewer 2003, Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, and Microsoft Word 2004 v. X for Mac, as well as Microsoft Works 2004, 2005, and 2006.
In order for this attack to be carried out, a user must first open a malicious Word file attached to an e-mail or otherwise provided to them by an attacker.
As a best practice, users should always exercise extreme caution when opening unsolicited attachments from both known and unknown sources.
Way to go, Microsoft! OpenOffice.org anyone?
Leg Godt?
November 30th, 2006Trivia: By number, what is the world’s No. 1 tyre manufacturer?
If you answered LEGO, you’re right on. Every year, LEGO’s manufacturing plant in Denmark produces 306 million tiny rubber tyres that decorated children all over the world, be it present or past.
Besides computers, LEGO played a substantial part in my childhood. I would beg my mother for a set every now and then, though often denied as LEGO sets are usually very expensive. I also got a (back then, quite out of my reach) LEGO aquanauts (I think) set as a gift for submitting a story in the monthly kids’ magazine, Kuntum. I think it’s in August 1996 edition.
Without further ado, the full story is here, and the purty pictures slidshow is here, in case you just want to browse through the pretties.
Corn and the Cob
November 3rd, 2006Eating is one of my favorite pastime. Now, this might surprise many who knew me, especially those who have met me in person. I don’t carry the physique of someone who indulge in gluttony every now and then, quite the opposite. It’s just that I like to spend more time eating less food.
On my way from work one fine Wednesday, I passed by a pasar malam. I haven’t been to one in months, so I pulled over. I got myself some food for dinner, and for the purpose of our discussion, 5 boiled corn on the cob for RM3.
While most people would rather eat it straight from the cob, I on the other hand find the resultant mess left on the cob quite disgusting.
So, i’d snap the cob in two and begin plucking 2 rows of corn from the center with my fingers and feed it into my mouth. Although this makes a very slow eating, but the juices are still intact and can be savoured to the very last. Delicious. After i’m done with the plucking, I’d pry the rest with my thumb into a bowl to be eaten later if there’s any, or straight into my mouth. As more of the corn could be plucked at once, this makes for a faster plucking. Repeat for the other half of the cob.
The result: clean and visually pleasant cob with no wasted kernels, no corn membranes still stuck to the cob (or in between your teeth.) A pleasurable corn-eating experience!
